PPC Industries offers a family of films and bags scientifically engineered for
packaging produce. Because fresh fruit and produce are living, breathing organisms,
the selection of protective packaging is critical. A packaging film with too much
barrier will suffocate produce. On the other hand, a film that offers no barrier
or is “vented” to ambient air will allow produce to ripen past its peak and spoil
before reaching the consumer. However, by selecting packaging with just the right
transmission rate, it is possible to slow the respiration of produce by naturally
modifying the atmosphere inside the bag. The modified atmosphere has the effect of
delaying the ripening process, thereby reducing spoilage, improving quality, and
extending shelf life. Depending on the type of produce and the post-harvest handling
and storage conditions, the shelf life and length of peak quality are often doubled or
tripled when utilizing engineered produce packaging from PPC Industries instead of
shipping and storing in non-protective packaging.
PPC Industries’ family of produce packaging materials includes:

- Micro-CAP™ films and bags are manufactured using a patented laser-perforating process to achieve optimum shelf life, particularly for high-respiring fruit such as cherries, kiwi, and plums. Fresh vegetables that benefit from Micro-CAP™ technology include broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, green onions, green beans, corn on the cob, fresh herbs, and sugar snap peas.
- M-Fresh™ films and bags are unique, microwavable structures designed to package heat-n-eat fresh vegetables. M-Fresh™ packaging maintains quality, extends shelf life, and allows for the convenience and nutrient retention of microwave cooking for fresh vegetables. The film is a special heat-resistant, co-extruded structure that uses the patented Micro-CAP™ laser-perforating process to achieve optimum product quality and shelf life.
- C-Fresh™ films are a new generation of Vertical Form Film Seal materials designed for shredded iceberg and romaine lettuce, salad mixes, and other diced vegetables. C-Fresh™ offers superior packaging line performance, extended shelf life, and real opportunities for cost savings through down-gauging. With C-Fresh™ films, lettuce and salad filling operations experience fewer rejects (and customer complaints) due to leakers, as well as faster set-up times because the film has a broad sealing-temperature range and is highly resistant to burn-through.
