PPC Industries offers a family of films and bags scientifically engineered for packaging produce.
Because fresh fruit and produce are living, breathing organisms, the selection of protective packaging
is critical. A packaging film with too much barrier will suffocate produce. On the other hand, a film
that offers no barrier or is “vented” to ambient air will allow produce to ripen past its peak and spoil
before reaching the consumer. However, by selecting packaging with just the right transmission rate, it
is possible to slow the respiration of produce by naturally modifying the atmosphere inside the bag. The
modified atmosphere has the effect of delaying the ripening process, thereby reducing spoilage, improving
quality, and extending shelf life. Depending on the type of produce and the post-harvest handling and storage
conditions, the shelf life and length of peak quality are often doubled or tripled when utilizing engineered
produce packaging from PPC Industries instead of shipping and storing in non-protective packaging.
